- Underage persons who reported binge drinking were 7 times more likely to report illicit drug use during the past month than underage persons who did not binge drink.
- Blood or urine biomarker tests cannot determine who has alcohol dependence, only whether a person has been drinking recently.
- Women cannot drink the same amount as men even if the weight of both of the individuals is the same, because they metabolize alcohol differently.
- Alcohol has been known to increase digestion, but this may be due to its relaxing effect, when a person has a couple of drinks before a meal. In higher "doses", alcohol can cause gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining), which is one of the reasons that an individual may experience heartburn and nausea the day after binge drinking; heavy drinking on a continuous basis can lead to stomach ulceration.
